Films for Shell’s partners in safety conference
CASE STUDY
Dawson Walker supported Shell by making two films on the impact of life at sea and the successes and challenges of the maritime industry from shipping company leaders (CEOs).
The Challenge:
Shell is working closely with shipping companies around the world to improve the health and safety culture in the maritime industry. Mariners work in extremely challenging environments - facing hazardous procedures and working away from home for long periods of time which has a severe impact on wellbeing.
Shell’s goal is a zero-incident industry and the impact they are making thus far is tremendous with rates of serious incidents reducing every year.
The Solution:
Every year Shell host a series of regional conferences with their partners.
This year Dawson Walker supported Shell by developing 2 short films; one focuses on the impact of the programme as told by the crew members on the vessels and the other is a reflection on the successes and challenges from the industry leaders (CEOs).
The films were produced to provoke thinking and discussion at the conferences.
We received an amazing response from crew members on vessels with nearly 500 user generated videos and audio content. Our Dawson Walker Team carefully catalogued, translated and transcribed all the video content to make the selection process easier.
Working closely with Shell, we prepared a storyboard and included a voice over narrative which became known as the “voice of conscience” in the film. With the aim to improve safety in the workplace in mind, this short film portrays the highs and lows of being a mariner.
We also interviewed eight CEOs from some of Shell’s partner shipping companies.
We used software that maximised the broadband available and ensured the image and audio output was of high quality in the video.
Carefully selected clips were edited together using B-roll footage to bridge any gaps making a cohesive, inspirational story in the short film.
