Account Executive, Dawson Walker Communications
What attracted you to the role at Dawson Walker?

I loved the idea of being able to have a role which combines creativity with analytical and research skills. At Dawson Walker, I could be helping put together a storyboard for a film one day and then carrying out competitor research the next. It was that mixture which really appealed to me.

I had done some marketing at an intern level and whilst at school, and it sparked an interest for me. Being able to work for a vibrant and bustling agency has always been my career goal, so when I heard about the role at Dawson Walker, I knew it was the dream job for me!

Could you share a memorable project from your academic experience that highlights your creative abilities?

I studied Classics at University, which at surface level, doesn’t sound like a particularly creative degree. However, I chose modules with a particular focus on art and architecture, which really fed that need for a creative outlet, even if it was in an analytical sense. This, in turn, led me to base my dissertation on the classical influences Louis XIV used to create his Sun King persona. Via this project, I got to analyse various creative mediums, linking them back to the way Louis XIV used them for propaganda.

I think being able to analyse creative mediums at a close-up range is something which helps me in my role here at Dawson Walker. Receiving something like film footage back from partners after a shoot, then analysing it and breaking it down to create storyboards, is something my university studies have really helped me with.

On top of that, I hosted a radio show on my university radio station, which really helped develop my speaking and presenting skills, ideal for liaising with our clients here at Dawson Walker. It also gave me the opportunity to develop my time management skills, in terms of presenting, editing and producing a show, whilst juggling my studies. I would have to think and develop a concept for each episode of the show, which was based on living in London!

How has your first month working at Dawson Walker been?

My first month here has been wonderful, with a real variety of things going on. I’ve started getting to know our clients and have been supporting the team with a range of tasks, from competitor research to putting together a presentation using a client’s new Employer Brand Guidelines. I was very lucky that I also got to help on a film shoot which gave me the opportunity to meet some of our partners – it was a real treat! The month ended on a high note with a partner get-together in London, it was great to catch up with everyone in person and meet our partners!
