A Year at Dawson Walker
Q&A with Eloïse Holland
How have you grown professionally while on our team?
I have gained a huge amount of confidence in my knowledge of Employer Branding, something that was at a very basic level when I started. I have been fortunate enough to have been given many opportunities with days out of the office where I have been able to have a more hands-on approach to learning. Filming projects are my absolute favourite.
Through that, I have been able to meet some incredible people and learn about their crafts and experiences. I have also attended a few Employer Brand events and been able to network with and experts in that field. And lastly, I have learned so much from the Dawson Walker team themselves, just listening and seeing how they manage, communicate and problem-solve has expanded my knowledge greatly.
When you are at work, how do you motivate yourself?
I like to capitalise on the flexibility that my WFH work schedule allows for as a source of motivation. To break the monotony of being sat in the same place, I often switch locations. For example, I might challenge myself to complete a task while working in a café during the morning, which has proved an effective way of working for me.
Also, I recognise the impact of screen time on creativity, so I will prioritise breaks for exercise or fresh air to help me refocus. Even making a cup of tea can be the break I need to get going again.
Describe some of the challenges you have faced at this company. How did you overcome them?
For me, the biggest challenge was the work environment. I was used to being on my feet all day and having face-to-face conversations. And moving to a sit-down desk job with an online onboarding process was definitely a challenge.
Having a good working-from-home set-up has made a huge difference in my productivity and mental health. I've made my little space my own and having a comfortable chair and a walking pad (my luxury item) has been really helpful. Also, planning trips up to the office to see the Dawson Walker team has been a lovely bonus and tops up my social interaction tank.
What are your career goals?
I think my career goals would be to become an expert in everything that I challenge myself to do. I want to experience the inner workings of companies so that I can bring new ideas and develop in everyplace that I go.
Although, I am not sure whether you can ever be a real expert because there is always more that you can learn for yourself or could be taught by others. I think I am trying to say that I want to have the skills to produce high quality work in whatever roles I end up in.
What industry changes or trends do you think will have the biggest impact?
AI is a massive topic right now. The leap in tech and how fast it learns will inevitably impact everything we do, whether it be in Employer Branding, Events or film and photography. Also, the global climate is evolving and likely to influence our business operations, calling for a shift in the needs of our service consumers. Consequently, those of us in Employer Branding must adapt to these changes.
